Day 4: Learning Journey to Historical & Famous Landmarks

We woke up and gathered at 7.45am today. We had our breakfast at the usual restaurant. After our breakfast, we went to Repulse Bay beach.
The scenery was very beautiful and it was windy. After going to the beach, we went to a temple and the tour guide told us that the temple was built to honour  “Ma Zhu” the Goddess of the sea. She told us to walk over the bridge and by doing that; our lifespan would be extended. We took a group photo after walking over the bridge.

After that, we went to Stanley Plaza and bought drinks for the journey ahead. We went to Stanley market and bought presents for our family and friends. We had to bargain with the owner in order to get the presents at a cheaper rate. Our buddies helped us bargain and we were thankful for that. We bought things like accessories, bags and shirts. After buying presents, we had our lunch at a restaurant. The food was very tasty. We have fun eating our lunch with our buddies.
We went to “Lan Kwai Fong” the place where we could meet Hong Kong actors and actreses if we were lucky. We saw a Hong Kong police station which was there since 1919 and it was very big compared to the police station in Singapore. We were rather surprised to see the colonial architecture of the  building. The Hong Kong teacher explained to the Hong Kong students in Cantonese that the purpose of walking through “Zhong Huan” was for us to see the changes to the buildings over the years. We started by seeing the old buildings and the shops were selling traditional things such as statues and antique. We saw” Zhong Huan” as a Western like place where there were lots of pubs and modern boutiques. We were told that the strong western influence has made “Zhong Huan“ a business district. “Zhong Huan” has thus lost most of its traditional Chinese culture.

Next we moved on to see the sculpture which was given by China because Hong Kong finally became part of China again. They used to be part of the British Empire for 100 years. It also marked the establishment of Hong Kong as a special administrative region (HKSAR). The sculpture is named the 'Forever Blooming Bauhinia Statue' We took many photos there as it had a very nice sea view.
We went to Sai Kong (Xi gong) for our seafood dinner. We visited the supermarket to buy groceries such as fruits and drinks before heading for dinner. We did not have much appetite for dinner as we had a early dinner and we were still full. Thus, we did not finish all the food and had to pack the leftovers. Overall, the dinner was nice as we dined at a restaurant with good ambience.
Seafood Feast
The day ended when we finished our dinner and returned to the hostel.
